Reasons to believe that the world is a good place

At times it can feel like the world is falling apart.

We hear stories of war, terrorism, bloodshed, murder and mayhem on a daily basis and it feels like there is no good left in the world.

Sadly the media has a "if it bleeds, it leads" mentality and so all the crap that we do to each other is what makes the headlines which leads to a very sordid, sad and depressing view of the world.

The reality is that the wold is full of miracles. Everyday there are people going out of there way to make this world we live in a better place. We've just been looking in the wrong places trying to find it. And if we want to believe in the world being a good place filled with loving kind people then we need to focus more on that and less on the other.

In the Law of attraction it is stated that what you focus on expands so if you want a peaceful loving world then you need to focus on seeing a peaceful loving world around you. Not just at Christmas but all year round and as Ghandi says  " Be the change you want to see in the world". That means YOU need to be more peaceful, loving and kind on a daily basis.

(1) #Illridewithyou

On Monday hostages were taken in a Sydney cafe by a man. He had them hold up a flag in the window with Muslim writing on it. The media went into a frenzy that this was terrorism and was Islamist. At the same time a couple of people on twitter started the hashtag #Illridewithyou to reach out to the Muslim community in Sydney to show them that they were not willing to lump them all under the same banner and that they would be willing to stand up and support them against racism or abuse from fellow Australians who were perhaps, not so enlightened See some of the tweets here

(2)  Secret Santa

In America tensions between the public and  the police have been at an all time high due to various court rulings on police killing innocent black men ( I won't list them here but I do believe #blacklivesmatter)

A wealthy businessman in America has made it a practice each year to give away money at Christmas time. This year he enlisted the local police force to help him to do his part in restoring some faith in cops and help out the deserving at the same  time.

(3) Random Acts of Kindness

People doing random acts of kindness for no other reason than because they can. One woman paid off  the lay away tabs for a whole store. Or all the people that sent Christmas cards to a dying girl. Or the woman who paid for coffee for the person behind her and everyone continued it for the rest of the day.

Random acts of kindness can be big or small but the impact and feel good vibes they leave behind linger for a long, long time. In fact studies have been done that show that just witnessing a random act of kindness makes people feel happier and floods their bodies with feel good hormones.

Want to flood yourself with even more goodness? Here's some stories from Random act of Kindness Week in February of this year.

Want more random acts of kindness? Go here for another ten stories to warm your heart.

(4) All the parents who are doing an AWESOME job of raising their kids

In this age of technology it is now easier than ever to capture ( and share) those moments when you get parenting right ( and let's face it sometimes it feels like you never do!) These parents (and many others) are doing an epic job.

Check out this blog and this one from Hands Free Mama

Shaping young lives is a full time job. Holding space for them to figure out who they are and who they want to be takes patience, love and patience ( yup lots and lots, that's why I wrote it twice) and is THE MOST IMPORTANT job in the world and yet we barely acknowledge it.

And when we look at the world through the eyes of our children we see that it is still full of magic and wonder. Let's not lose that.

How are you making the world a beautiful place today? What random act of kindness can you do to shape the world we live in tomorrow?

Digging Deep, Letting go, Moving on

The trouble with doing deep, inner transformational work is that it never ends.

Just when you think you have got all your shit handled you will find or be presented with a new scenario, a slightly different slant on the same old story. Something or someone ( it's usually a someone) will present it itself and you will be stopped in your tracks.

The bad news is that the deeper and clearer that you get with your boundaries the more this is likely to happen.

I think  the Universe ( God, Goddess, Source whatever you call it) has a warped sense of humour. She ( I'm going with she because IT is just a tad impersonal for the maker/creator of the Universe, but that's just me) will see you cruising along with all your ducks in a row, feeling like the Queen of your Universe and so she will think to herself "I wonder if she has finally let all of that shit go? I know I'll just give her a little test"  And Voila just like that a situation is placed before you that resembles some chit from the past that you have already let go of....... or so you thought.

The good news is that if you have been paying attention to your own life and you are awake and processing your stuff, you will immediately recognise this for what it is, a test.  With that clarity you will handle the situation differently, gracefully and with the utmost ease and you can carry on your happy way.

Or............

You haven't processed your stuff, you have stuffed it down deep inside and when a new situation arises to test you, you hang your head and go "Why does this shit always happen to me?"

Um, well that's because you need to learn this lesson.

You need to learn how to release and let go.

Letting go is one of the hardest things that we, as humans , do.

We cling to people, situations, even things that NO LONGER SERVE  US!

Why?

Because letting go is painful. It requires change.

Most of us would do anything rather than change.

Change means looking at everything in your life and asking "does this serve me?" If the answer is no then you let it go.

Change means reevaluating the relationships in your life. This one is really scary because we don't want to upset people. We want people to like us, often, at any cost. Even if that cost is to ourselves.

Change means taking a leap of faith and working out the details on the way down. Faith means trusting in something greater than yourself. Trusting that the Universe has got your back.... and she does.

Change takes courage. Courage to do things differently. Courage to stand up and say "This is who I am!" Courage to do what is best for YOU, regardless of others opinions.

Change is about being comfortable with your discomfort. Stepping out of your comfort zone, stepping into where the magic happens and knowing that you have what it takes to make it happen.

Change means loving yourself enough to carry on in spite of what others think.

Changing the world happens when the world is full of people with the courage to live life on their terms. When people are fully awake to their own potential and are ready to do what ever it takes to make their dreams a reality.

Letting go, it sounds so easy but take a look inside a hoarders house and you will see that those two little words pack a  big punch. If you are ready to make some changes in your life then take a look at your own clutter and see where it is that you are still holding on. Decluttering is a powerful tool for inner work.

Start with one drawer, or one room and see and feel the shift in your energy as you drag out all the old memories and decide which ones to keep and which to let go of. Do not be surprised if it is harder than you think.
Clarity is the gift that you receive at the end of it ( and generally, several bags of junk to take to the dump or donate to goodwill).

How to change the world

There are some days when I listen to the news or watch it on tv and I just shake my head at the utter pointlessness of it all. And then there are  the days when I get angry and rail at the sheer brutaliy of it all. Murders, rapes domestic violence, terroist attacks, poverty, recession and depression. Sometimes it all seems so overwhelming and I am only one person.

What can I do to change the world?

Where do I even start and is there any point?

Haven't we been doing this shit for years ans nothing has changed , in fact, it feels like it is all just getting worse and worse?

Maybe I should stop watching the news, shut down the internet and just retreat from the world? I read just such a comment on an article about Nigella Lawson on Mamamia today and it made me stop and think.

We all have times when we wish the world was s different place, that there was peace, an end to poverty and war and violence and well, the list goes on and on. Sure some of us start movements designed to help out or we particiapte in organisations. We raise money and send aide to poor countries. some of us sign petitions in order to get things changed.

These are all worthy things to do but so far they seem like putting a plaster on a raging, infectious wound.

Now I am not saying that we should stop doing any of those things and I am not saying that I have any answers BUT I do think it is time that we took a different look at things.

You see we are so focused on trying to fix what is out there when maybe what we need to fix is within us.

The questions we need to start asking ourselves are:

(1) How am I acting violently to myself?

(2) In what way am I feeding the beleif in lack and poverty in the world? Do I feel that if I take my share others will go without?

(3) How am I terrorizing myself?

Once you start the process of looking within yourself to see how you are perpetuating the beliefs you see manifested in the outside world you begin to realise that we are all in this together and that the greatest gift you can give to the world is yourself.

You, as the perfectly healed, loving version of yourself.

You, as the energetic match of the change that you want to see in the world.

You, living in truth and love and radiating that out into the world with compassion and gratitude.

Gandhi said we must be the change that we want to see in the world and the trouble is most of us have gotten busy with the doing. All the while believing that the world needs fixing. But it is not our job to fix the world. Rather it is our job to fix all the broken places in ourselves,

For most of us that task seems too daunting so we get busy fixing the world. We forget that we are human beings not human doings. The being part seems too complex, too in-your-face, so we get busy doing anything to distract ourselves from ourselves.

I will say it again; IT IS NOT YOUR JOB TO FIX THE WORLD.

Your only job is to fix all the broken places in yourself.

Thats it !

By healing ourselves, focusing on ourselves and our broken places we give others to do the same and THEN we have the love and compassion and wholeness to truly be of service to the world.
